Coach and Barb Kruger in the Community “We have been blessed with so much opportunity in our lives. The question is, ‘What are we going to do with that opportunity?” - Lon Kruger Below are a few of Coach and Barb Kruger’s favorite organizations and causes to be involved with: Coaches vs. Cancer Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs. Coaches vs. Cancer provides critical mission outreach, while raising funds in support of the Society’s lifesaving cancer research, education, advocacy, and community service efforts. In 2008, Coach Kruger spearheaded the first Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Invitational on the West Coast, in Las Vegas. Thirteen current and former coaches from around the nation attended. Clark County School District’s School-Community Partnership The mission of the School-Community Partnership Program is to connect business and community resources with school resources to enrich the educational experience and increase student achievement. Coach serves on the board and has taken an active role in promoting UNLV’s “Tickets for Teachers” program as well as serving as the Partnership’s spokesperson. CCSD Partnership Office
Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth The goal of the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth is to end homelessness among Nevada’s youth. Coach and Barb both serve on the board of the organization and have taken an active roll in helping the organization serve the community. www.nphy.org Chefs for Kids Chefs for Kids, Inc., is a nonprofit initiative of the Fraternity of Executive Chefs of Las Vegas. The goal of the program is to eliminate malnutrition and hunger through education and awareness. The Chefs of Las Vegas recognize the needs of these children, and have chosen to answer these needs through education. Coach and Barb have both taken an active role with this organization. Southern Nevada Health District Coach has worked with the Southern Nevada Health District to develop “Coach’s Challenge,” a program aimed at combating childhood obesity among elementary school students. http://www.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/
Safe Nest The mission of Safe Nest is to be the leading advocate in promoting the eradication of domestic violence by providing confidential assistance including shelter, food, clothing, counseling, education and other services to individuals experiencing domestic violence, while maintaining the highest respect and dignity for our clients. Sisterhood exists to be a source of encouragement and support for women to realize their potential in whatever worthwhile endeavor they choose.
