6-foot-8-inch forward transfers from UCLA, enrolls at UNLV
Mike Moser has enrolled in classes at UNLV and has become a member of the men's basketball program, head coach Lon Kruger announced Tuesday.
Moser, a 6-foot-8 inch, 195-pound forward, transferred to UNLV
from UCLA, where he was a true freshman during the 2009-10 season. He
will have to sit out the 2010-11 season at UNLV because of NCAA
transfer rules and will be eligible to play for the Runnin' Rebels as a
sophomore during the 2011-12 season.
"Mike brings a great deal of versatility to our program as well
as athletic ability," Kruger said. "He is an outstanding young man who
works extremely hard both on and off the basketball court."
For the Bruins last season, Moser appeared in 15 of the team's 32 games. He averaged 4.7 minutes played per contest.
Moser was a two-sport star and four-year letterman in basketball
and track and field at Grant High School in Portland, Ore., where he
graduated in 2009 before going to UCLA. In basketball, he earned
first-team All-6A Portland League and all-city honors all four years as
well as first-team all-state accolades his final three seasons. He was
a member of the 2008 Oregon state championship squad, a team that
turned in a 22-7 record. His teams posted a mark of 76-32 (.704) during
his four years and won the league title in each of his last three
seasons with a combined league record of 26-5.
As a senior, Moser earned All-America honors and was named the
state of Oregon's Mr. Basketball. He posted averages of 28.3 points and
13 rebounds per game as a senior. As a junior, he posted averages of
21.1 ppg and 12 rpg. He left Grant as the school's all-time leading
rebounder and was also an all-league high jumper in track and field.
Coming out of high school, Moser was rated the 39th player in
the country and No. 7 small forward by Scout.com. ESPN ranked him at
No. 55 overall and 13th among small forwards, while Rivals.com had him
at 92nd overall, 17th among small forwards, and the No. 1 small forward
in his state.
